An update on the Vietnamese livestock and feed industry
The total pig population in Vietnam was 26.3 million pigs, a 0.9% decrease compared with 2012. There were 3.9 million sows, a 2% decrease compared with 2012. Total production was 3.3 million tonnes, a 2.1% increase from 2012.
Vietnam imported 268,000 tonnes of soybean in December 2013, a total of 1.39 million tonnes in 2013, a 7.2% increase from 2012. The volume of corn was imported 543,000 tonnes in December 2013, a total of 2.26 million tonnes in 2013, a 39.7% increase from 2012. Vietnam imported USD 3.0 billion of animal feed and raw materials in 2013, a 22.3 % increase from 2012.
