Mekong Delta's fishery output plan to reach 3.5 million MT by 2020
Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has recently approved the Planning on the development of Agricultural sector in Mekong Delta by 2020 and vision towards 2030 in the context of climate change.
By 2020, Mekong Delta strives to reach 3.5 million MT of fish output with the value of VND250 million per hectares. By 2030, the figure will be 4.2- 4.3 million MT with the value of VND400 million per hectare. 30 thousand hectares of cultivable area in the Delta are estimated to be lost by 2030 due to rising sea level. Thus, land for rice production will decrease by 15 thousand hectares and the area for aquaculture increases to 558 thousand hectares.
