DOC revises up anti-dumping tariffs on tra fish
The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) has announced final results of the ninth Period of Administrative Review (POR 9) with anti-dumping tariffs imposed on Vietnamese tra fish up by 2.8 times from the rates determined last September.
Accordingly, compulsory defendant Vinh Hoan Corp enjoys a zero tariff while the rate for voluntary defendants is US$1.2 per kilogram compared to US$0.42 which DOC announced last September. There are 25 enterprises subject to the tariff of US$1.2 per kilogram, including Hung Vuong, while the other exporters must pay US$2.11.
Under the DOC’s preliminary determination last September, compulsory defendants had to pay anti-dumping tariffs of US$0.42 and 2.15 per kilogram while that of voluntary defendants was USD0.99. Seafood exporters in the Mekong Delta region said such adjustments would be of great help for Vinh Hoan Corp. to boost shipments to the U.S. but would hurt other exporters.
The prices of unprocessed tra fish remain high in the Mekong Delta region. Nguyen Ngoc Hai, head of An Thoi Tra Fish Cooperative in Can Tho City, said a kilogram of premium-grade tra was sold at VND25,000-26,000 and the grade-two type at VND24,000-24,500. With such prices, farmers can earn profit of VND2,000-3,000 per kilogram.
