Increasing raw material imports
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 4 first months of 2014, the volume of corn imports has increased to 2.04 million tonnes, the value at USD 526 million, 3 times increase in volume but increased only 2 times in the price. Meanwhile, the corn imports only reached 2.26 million tonnes in 2013, the value at USD 690 million. Brazil, India and America are main suppliers to provide corn to Vietnam, accounting for 64%, 13.3% and 11.5% of total imports.
Soybean imports also increased to 590,000 tons in the first 4 months of the year, the value at USD 345 million, up 47.5% in volume and 42% in value compared with the same period in 2013.
